Financial Benefits of Using ExPress® Soymeal in Layer Diets
Recently, a study was completed at Virginia Tech University comparing Insta-Pro ExPress® meal vs. Conventional SBM in layer diets. As expected, the feed conversion ratio was improved when substituting ExPress® meal into the diet, from 1.927 to 1.892. This is calculated by taking the feed intake by the egg mass. When looking at the change in FCR and the different ingredients in the complete formulation, it was found that the diet containing ExPress® meal ($229.62) was $20.12 less per ton that the diet with SBM ($249.74). So not only was the FCR better, the cost of the diet per ton was much less.
In the above table, you can see the cost difference in the amount of methionine and soy oil needed to complete the diet. As discussed in the past in multiple blogs, Insta-Pro ExPress® meal contains 6-8% residual oil, while typical SBM is less than 1%. We also know that the protein in the extruded and pressed ExPress® meal has not been over-processed and is highly digestible. At the end of the day, the feed cost per bird was $0.25 less than the conventional formulation with SBM.
So, whether you are a feed miller looking to sell high-quality soybean meal to layer farms, or if you are an integrated layer company, there is much to benefit from by switching to ExPress® meal in your layer diets.
